⚠️ Warning: Client refuses to pay for work!
Recently, I encountered a scammer named Sergey (which might be a fake name) on the Weblancer platform.
Here is what happened.
Sergey posted a job on the website looking for someone to build a cryptocurrency screener. The task itself was quite interesting: developing a screener with custom user filters and Telegram notification alerts.
It immediately felt sketchy when Sergey bypassed my official proposal on Weblancer and insisted on communicating directly via Telegram. I had a feeling it could be a scam, but I decided to take the job anyway because the project scope genuinely caught my interest at the time.
My usual policy for smaller projects is to show the results first before taking payment. So, after 2 weeks of work, I completed the task and demonstrated the working product to Sergey.
Unsurprisingly, he started demanding a bunch of extra features that were never part of our initial agreement. Given my initial doubts, I requested payment for the original project scope first, promising to hand over the codebase right after.
Right after that, Sergey wiped our entire chat history on Telegram (which was honestly kind of hilarious 😅, yet still frustrating).
So, fellow freelancers, please stay vigilant! ⚠️
